Our Story

Rooted in Kakamega. Designed for discovery.

KABNA — Kakamega Birding & Nature Adventures — is built around a simple idea: travel becomes more meaningful when people have the opportunity to slow down, observe, learn and connect with the places they visit.

Our journey begins in Kakamega, one of Kenya's most distinctive forest landscapes and a natural starting point for birding, nature walks, photography, environmental learning and outdoor experiences.

From this home base, KABNA is developing a wider network of nature and travel experiences that can connect visitors with destinations, guides, accommodation providers, conservation initiatives and communities across Kenya.

Our starting point is Kakamega. We are building a platform through which visitors can discover Kakamega first and then continue exploring Kenya beyond the forest.
What We Do

More than a tour. A way to experience place.

KABNA brings together guided experiences, specialist interests and wider travel connections so that visitors can build journeys around what they genuinely want to see, learn and experience.

01

Birding

Guided birding experiences centred on Kakamega Forest, with opportunities for beginners, enthusiasts, photographers and specialist groups.

02

Nature Adventures

Forest walks, outdoor discovery, photography, educational experiences and activities designed to help visitors engage with nature.

03

Safari Connections

Wider journeys can connect the Kakamega experience with other destinations, wildlife areas, conservancies, resorts and travel experiences across Kenya.

04

Learning

School groups, families, organisations and visitors can use nature experiences as opportunities for observation, discovery and environmental learning.

05

Photography

Nature and bird photography experiences provide opportunities to explore landscapes, wildlife and forest life at a considered pace.

06

Community Connections

KABNA aims to strengthen connections between visitors, local guides, communities, accommodation providers and conservation-oriented tourism initiatives.

The KABNA Approach

Start with an interest. Build an experience.

Visitors do not all travel for the same reason. KABNA is therefore designed around flexible experiences that can grow from a simple forest visit into a broader Kenyan journey.

1

Choose your interest

Birding, nature, photography, family travel, education, adventure or safari.

2

Choose your experience

Select an existing experience or discuss a customised programme with the KABNA team.

3

Begin in Kakamega

Experience the forest through guided activities designed around your interests.

4

Explore beyond

Extend your journey to other destinations and travel experiences across Kenya.

One starting point. Many possibilities.

KABNA is developing a connected nature and travel platform rather than a single-destination tour page.

  • Kakamega Forest birding
  • Nature and forest experiences

Our Values

Principles behind the experience.

The KABNA experience is designed around respect for nature, meaningful travel and responsible relationships with the places and people that make each journey possible.

Nature

Encouraging curiosity, appreciation and responsible interaction with natural environments.

Discovery

Creating opportunities to observe, learn and experience destinations beyond conventional sightseeing.

Community

Building connections between travellers, local people, guides and tourism partners.

Responsibility

Promoting thoughtful travel and respect for ecosystems, wildlife and local environments.

Kakamega & Beyond

A gateway from the forest to Kenya.

Kakamega is at the heart of the KABNA identity. It is where our birding and nature story begins.

But the wider vision is bigger: to make it easier for visitors to combine forest experiences with other destinations, landscapes, wildlife experiences, accommodation and specialist interests.

Whether a visitor wants a short nature escape or a longer Kenyan adventure, KABNA is being designed to help connect the pieces.
